CCEN - Carolina Coastal Emergency Net

Net Procedures

Net begins at 7 PM each night on (or near) 3907kc.and runs about an hour
Net Control will control all net operations. Net Control's decision is final.
Any member may open the net during times of emergency
Visitors are always welcome.
Only INFORMAL and HEALTH AND WELFARE traffic will be handled. We are NOT A FORMAL TRAFFIC NET. If a net member is willing to pick up traffic, fine. If not, there are nets that specialize in traffic handling
Language and comments should be something a young child could hear. Comments may be about what you like but consider others.
Be willing to fill in and be a net controller if one of the regulars is absent.
Comments or suggestions for net improvement should be done by contacting the Net Manager directly by phone or email. This discussion shall not take place on the air.

SAMPLE NET CALLER FORMAT- say the following

Calling the Coastal Carolina Emergency Net (repeat 3 times)

This net meets nightly at 7 PM local time for the purpose of handling informal and health and welfare traffic during times of emergency. When there is not an emergency we meet for fellowship, enjoying the hobby of Amateur Radio and carrying on the tradition of this net.

We welcome visitors and non-members to this net and ask that they would wait until net members have been called before checking in. We will honor visitors by putting them near the top of the list during the ragchew portion of the net.

If you have checked in 10 times or more, consider yourself a member and check in when you hear your alphabetic group called for by net control. Keep your own count of check-ins for membership. No one from the net is keeping a record.

Vistiors will be called for after the member check in.

Is there any informal traffic to be listed with the net? If so call (your call)

Are there any relays on traffic?

Are there any mobiles or portables to check in to the net?

Relays on mobiles?

Are there any YL's wishing to check into the net?

We will now go to the gentlemen of the net.

(at this point go back and pick up mobiles, YL's and visitors, early outs, etc. For the OM's we have followed an A-Z list on even number days of the month and Z-A on odd number days. This has been a net tradition and people will let you know if you have the wrong date!)

(At the end of the net thank all who checked in and all who let us have the frequency and allowed to make the net possible. Sign off and close the net.)

Other Thoughts

We are always looking for pictures, documents and other items of net interest. It has been amazing to me how much interest this little effort has created among CCEN members. In some ways, looking at these albums of pictures creates a feeling like one has when attending a hamfeast or other gathering of radio enthusiasts. Our hobby is not primarily a visual one and that may explain the enjoyment of attending a hamfeast or other gathering. Looking at these pictures often brings back very vivid memories of past events and times spent with others. In a way it is as if long absent members or silent keys are brought back to life in these memories. That probably explains some of the interest. Like any endeavor, it is only as good as the participation of members allows it to be. If you have any photos that may be of interest to net members, send them along. We all enjoy them more than you may know. We particularly encourage new members to send a picture of themselves, their station and other things that others may find interesting. It is amazing the things that we learn about each other over the various nights' ragchews. Photos help fill in the blanks and make the enjoyment of the Net even more. Ed K3JKQ

CCEN NOW ON FACEBOOK

Brand New! We have just started a Facebook page on the Internet. Facebook is a really great and fun tool for communicating which is quick, easy and allows a number of people to participate in discussing an idea. Unlike email which must be sent to every individual, Facebook allows all of your friends on Facebook to see it. There is also the ability to have private one-on-one messages sent as well. This is a fun and valuable tool which our net could use to increase communications.

On Facebook, just put CCEN in the search box and wait for our logo to pop up! It's that easy. All you do then is click on "join this group" and you're in. Simple as that!
